We live in southern Florida and want to build a coop/run very similar to this one: desert coop We have a large carport in our backyard consisting of a roof and concrete slab and want to take advantage of this area. From my understanding the coop part would be great on top of the slab b/c it is easy to hose out when necessary. Of course we will be putting in some type of bedding in there (I am thinking pine shavings). My question is: can we build the run on top of the concrete too? Is it a good idea? And if so, what would we be putting on top of it? Gravel?

Thanks for your help!

OK, nevermind. I think we've decided not to put the run over the concrete slab, just the coop. I'm getting so much info that I'm confusing myself! I think I read that concrete is the best choice for the coop floor and somehow I later thought it was the best choice for the coop AND run floor. But after I posted this question I think that thought is wrong.

LOL, have I confused you all too?

LOL! Too many ideas, too much information, too many opinions!! I was the same way.. I would read something and say--that's prefect , that's what I'll do! Then I would read something else and say ok---maybe that would be better.

We built my coop on a cement slab and the run is just earth. I like the looks of the one you have chosen. With your weather and humidity--it will be prefect for you...Dixie
