so I placed an order thru ideal of 14 bantams and 4 LF for my neighbor.
My question is, I entered my address, but I know it ships to a post office. Will it ship to the post office nearest to my adress or to the post office tied into the name on my shipping adress? I will call the hatchery on Monday to find out for sure.

The first time ordering chicks via US Postal Service can be nerve wracking.

By all means call the hatchery and find out where the chicks ship from, where they go from there, how long transit is, means of conveyance (air, truck, and sub contractors such as handing them off to FedEx for a portion of the journey.

Then call your local post office where your mail gets sorted by the carrier before they deliver it to your house. Find out where the chicks will go first before they come to your post office and how long they will be in transit from that (probably a sorting facility) landing place to your local PO.

This serves to enlighten you as to what your baby chicks will be enduring during their journey, and it may even give you some options as to being able to drive a few hours to pick the chicks up somewhere else to spare them an extra 24 hours being held at some stop-over facility.

I have had chicks shipped several times, and I did take advantage of knowing where to go to get my chicks an entire day early by just driving a few hours to go get them.

The more you know, the more options you may find you have, and the better off you and your new babies will be.

Ideal is the hatchery I’ve used for all of my chicks and they came to the post office that all my mail is sorted to be delivered. I called them the day before and explained I was expecting chicks and they called first thing the morning they arrived. Ideal has been great to deal with even though there was two mix ups with one order. I ended up with 12 silkies I didn’t order because my shipping label and a man in NC shipping label was on the box, I have no clue who got my EE’s but I got a beautiful assortment of silkies, then got my EE’s the following week. Ideal just screwed up my “chicken math” for this year at least. :D
