I am going to make a cage for my jumbo babies. They are between 1 and 2 weeks old, and they are getting way too big for their box! I want to make something that will be big enough for them to live in indefinitely. There are 16 of them.

Another question, I was planning on moving them outside. If I cover the cage and use a 250 watt heat light they should be all right, right? If not I'll keep them in for a while longer. I just kind of need more room for brooders, and these guys are the only ones that can (possibly) be kicked out that are eventually going to be, except the 2 a&m's, and kicking them out wouldn't really help matters much.

Yep you can put em out just so they are wrapped up and have heat on them. Many peeps do it!

I would if i was allowed to rig electric stuff up there! LOL!

As for 16 of them... that's nuthin! I have over 30 in my large rabbit hutch...it's something like 4 ft long 2 1/2 ft wide works great.

I dont go by the "1 sq ft per bird" if they can move around and sprawl out and arent fighting...i personally do whatever wokrs best for them and me.

Now in the small breeding pens, i care about how many i put in per cage ofcourse i dont want murders! LOL!

Yeah, I thought I could put them outside, but I just wanted to be sure.

And I knew I needed at least a 3x2 cage, but I thought that was probably a bit small. I was thinking of the 1 sq. ft. per bird thing, and was like wow, that would have to be huge!! That can't be right!

These will be on the covered porch, so they won't be in any elements other than cold and maybe wind. Once spring gets here I'll move them to their permanent home area.

So as soon as I find some heavy wire, they are getting kicked out! That will keep my kid from picking them up all the time! I think I'm going to take my 2 A&M boys to the auction this week, maybe I'll let Cris keep 2 babies inside so he can play with them. He wants his own incubator so he can have his own babies, since I won't let him play with mine!

I'm going to be having most of my breeding birds in 2x2x2' high pens. I had them in it for a few weeks this fall and they did well in it (i had up to 6 in some)!

On my info thing i have the square foot thing, but i am first to admit i dont go by it, that's just rediculous lol. Sure if you have THAT much room and stuff maybe but other wise...peh! LOL!
