Question about checking temps

I have read to never trust the incubator dials. What items do I need to purchase to check temps? My incubator comes today (or that is what FedEx says) and I am going out later tonight for my birthday. I figured I could pick up what I needed. I have not ordered eggs yet (looking for semi local so I can just pick them up and not have them shipped). Will one of those oven temp gages with the little metal wire work well? Or what would work the best?

It really depends on what type incubator you purchased. Some thermometers are more accurate than others. The little "carded" ones (those attached to a plastic card) really aren't very good as far as accuracy, but before you go out & buy something else, check the one you get.
