I just have a question. My Chickens are now 3 weeks old and they sort of look funny - the baby fluff feathers are making way for the newer chicken feathers - when will they start to look like grown birds?

This must be the gawky awkward stage.

When will I see the rose comb start to stand out. They seem so little but in a week I am told, they will be old enough to be in the coop. I will post a picture - I just have to transfer it and edit my post.

This one has hearts on her feathers but the feathers are suppose to have more gold and be laced around with black!

I still think they are cute but they look so funny right now.

Mine still looked funny until 6 weeks. At 9 weeks, a few of mine still look weird

I didn't put mine out until 6 weeks.

I am curious - why 6 weeks - due to weather or size?
I live in Florida and it is averaging about 90 degrees in the shade.

So I think the temperature will be okay but I am totally new to this and wondering when is a good time to add them to the coop - plus we have more babies coming end of this month so I would like my golden girls to be out of the brooder so I can put the silver girls in when they come.

Someone said that hatchery chicks don't look right as far as "composition" (Coloring) and also they tend not to look right in their bodies - Can anyone explain what that means - aren't wyandotts suppose to look kind of fat and round and leghorns long and skinny.....

Do chickens have "Breed Standards?"

they look exactly like they should at this age. their feathers should get more defined after their first molt. Hatchery chicks are not show quality so sometimes they do not exhibit some of the traits of their breed but they will still be beautiful and provide fresh eggs

this person is right.

thats how they should look. and there feathers will get better over age.

Good, Then I won't worry -

One of my girls has hearts on her feathers.

They seem to be good. I notice they eat and drink fine and I am always changing the water.

They were just looking a little funny.
Thanks
