Our chicks are 5 weeks old (as of this past Tuesday). They spent 8-10 hrs outside for a week or so before we moved them outside to their coop 3 days ago. They've been outside in the upper 40s and a lot in 50 degree weather with overcast skies and cold ground/grass. They seem pretty much fully feathered to me. They've been without any brooder heat for 2 weeks..they were kept in the garage the entire time and sometimes it was in the low 40s outside during that time without additional heat.
My question.. next week, when they'll officially be over 6 wks old (next Wed), we have a low of 38 one night, 32 the next, and 35 the next. Then the lows are back in the 40s. These lows tend to happen at 7-8am where we live and it takes a few hours before sunshine hits the yard where the coop is. If they have been outside so much and have a 4x8 wood coop that has 4-6 inches of pine shavings bedding, should they be ok during those temps? I'd rather not bring them back into the garage, but I'm not 100% confident they're ok. I know fully feathered means they should be good, but I wanted to ask.
We have 10 chickens. Australorps, Barred Rocks, and Buff Orpingtons. I have pics so you can see how feathered they are.
