I am a second time egg hatcher. One of the chicks zippered, popped the top off, then started coming out butt first. It has had its hind end and wings are poking out of the egg for about 12 hours with no progress. It's head and feet are still in the egg. It has been moving quite a bit, but there has been no progress for about 12 hours. Should i give it some help? If not, at what point should I give it some help?

Are others hatching?
I would probably take a warm water bottle and spritz the entire incubator, pull the chick out and close the incubator.
When it is free, put it in the brooder.

Also, these eggs were hatched by the mother. About 3 days ago she abandoned the eggs. I let them sit all day and she would not return to the eggs. I do not have an incubator, so I just put them under a heat lamp. 5 of 12 have hatched.

Did the hen hatch and brood any?
This is the hen's third brood. the other two brood she sat on until about three days before hatch day. None of those broods hatched. So this time when she got of the eggs, I let them sit for most of the day before taking them and setting them under a heat lamp. 5 over yesterday and today. Two doing well, One is alive, alert and fluffy, but clearly has not use of it legs which are black and limp, one died within minutes of coming out of the egg, and the last one has had its head and legs stuck in the egg since late last night.

So I help the chick out of the shell. It is doing okay. It is huge. Like 50% bigger than any of the other chicks. Could that be why it was stuck funny in the shell?
