I was wondering about cross breeding.

What is the difference between a Production Red, Red Sex-link and, Red Cross?

I understand there are different hens used to achieve them, but are they all basically the same?
And exactly how are they all crossed to get what?
I think a RIR rooster is used for all of them?

I am looking to get some more hens to produce alot of brown eggs for a small family restaurant.
I have been told that the Production or Red Star is what I should use because they are light on feed but lay like crazy.
Is this true?

I think they are all the same, just some hatcheries call them by different names. And yes, both the red or black sex-link are lighter birds with high egg productions, especially the first two years.

Quote:
Production Reds-
Production Reds can be either bred solely from R.I. Red's with no outside blood being introduced, or some believe that Production Reds are a R.I. Red with Leghorn blood introduced.

Red Sex-link-
Red-sex-link's can be color sexed at birth.

Red Cross-
Red Crosses is any cross using a R.I. Red in the breeding.
