Question about dirt run?

The deep mulch method is working pretty good in the coop. But the run is getting smelly. A lot of it, I think has to do with the heat. Anyway to keep the smell down in a dirt run? There is still grass growing in there. So I would really not want to totally kill the grass, if it isn't all dying anyway.

I rake up the big poop into a pile and then scoop it up and dump it in my compost. That seems to keep the smell down.

You could do two things. one 3" of sand. Or you could spread a good amount of lime and till it in. or both perhaps. Me, it would be both.
