So the two that are meandering around the incubator (I took the other 6 who hatched out earlier, as it was too crowded in there) anyhow, the two left in there look like there's dried goo on them, their shells werent as clean as the other ones who hatched, so their feathers appear dry and very stiff. What do you do about that? THey hatched about 5 hours ago, and still look really stiff and stuck to them, not dry and fluffy like the others when I took them out of the bator and into the brooder. Any ideas? Thanks

Where exactly on them?? If you want to, you could use a warm damp paper towel to sponge off some of the stuff, but it doesnt sound like a problem

the feathers fall out soon anyways
Anyone else got any ideas?

Sounds like the humidity might have gotten a little low and they almost got shrink wrapped. If they are the last two to hatch and you were opening the bator to remove the other chicks that would explain it. I haven't incubated any so this is just a semi-educated guess from all my reading here. Do a search on sticky shrink wrapped chicks and see if anthing sounds familiar. I think you can give them a wash with warm water as long as you blow dry them so they don't get chilled. Congrats on the new fuzzy butts, I'm jealous!

Just leave them alone they will soon get rid of the gooy feathers, and get there new feathers and you find it hard to know witch ones they was, I have had it a few times and it all worked out fine.

thanks everyone. They're doing very well, keep peering into the window and they're all over the place! One just hatched with no problem at all just a few minutes ago, came out easily, no goo, so am notsure if it was the humidity problem as they all pipped at about the same time, I don't know, but chick seems to be doing well. I have one more pipped and starting to zip then going to go to bed since the other few have not pipped they may be duds, but at least I;ll get a bit of sleep until I wake up in 3 hours to check my goat! LOL
