I am planning on putting up an electric fence, but have no clue what I'm doing. It is hard to explain the layout I have in mind. My house is at the side of the property. I have land one three sides. I want to fence off the back and side yard. The portion that would run along the back of the house is the part I am wondering about. Do I need to put up posts, or can I attach the wire to the side of the house?

I would think you can attch the ends to the house. We have a wire that runs along the top of a split rail fence that was already there & the clips are attached to the tops of the posts & so I would think the clips would work the same on the house. If not then you'd probably be using the poles/posts for the electric fence & those you coupld put up against the house.

Your ends need to be strong enough to stretch your wires,

I'd set a post as close to the house as I could instead of attaching to the house itself.

If youre talking about running wires PARALLEL to the house, just use T posts or plastic "step in" posts, since all they will be doing is spacing the wire, and dont carry a load.

Think REALLY hard before you put a fence right up against your house. You wont be able to mow there, and wont have access without the danger of the fence being in the way.

What is going to be inside this fence?

I'm sorry I was hoping to find a pic for you so you could see, but I'm suddenly having trouble getting into photobucket.

We don't have any issues with mowing the lawn because if we're mowing we're in the yard & so we just shut it off.... Of course the electric fence will keep the predators out but it won't keep your chickens in and so it's not like you can just use a electric fence to free range the chickens in the back yard.

Thanks guys. I don't have to worry about mowing the back part of the yard- nothing grows there-it is all dirt. I just want the electric fence to keep any dogs that might stray my way out of the yard.
