I was wondering, when a hen is bred by a rooster, how long are her eggs fertile after that? Is it like, when they breed only the next egg is fertile, making daily encounters necessary for daily fertile eggs? If my roo doesn't see every girl every day, will different eggs be fertile all the time? Thanks in advance for any info.

Usually the eggs are fertile 24 hours from the first mating and a hen can produce fertile eggs for 1 or 2 weeks from the last mating, but sometimes they can go up to 3 weeks

So...if one wishes to change a rooster...the effect will not be in place for 3 weeks...at which time the new rooster fertilization would be in place?

If you insert the new rooster 3 weeks after removing the first one, each hen will produce fertile eggs from 24 hours after the first mating with the new rooster. The time it will take for the rooster to start fertilizing the hens depends on many factors such as his age and the time it takes to settle in the new flock.
