Question About Fried Green Tomatoes...

I don't know why but I don't like the fresh tomato taste.....I think it has to do with the texture of the tomato. It is weird cause I like salsa, tomato sauce. I don't like ketchup. Weird.

we use any unripe green tomatoes. I can't wait until my 60 tomatoe plant s are ready

But I agree for FGT you use unripe red tomaotes - they stay firmer when fried and have a nice tart taste.

Funny story:
I gave a novice-gardener friend a Green Zebra seedling.
Later, when I was done harvesting mine, I asked how she liked them.
"Horrible!" she told me "They never got ripe!"

Another funny story: I made fried green tomatoes for my young neices from Oregon, big hit. The next day they came running into the house after picking EVERY green tomatoe on my 20 plants. Quite a haul for a 3 and 4 year old!

- So what do the Green Zebra tomatoes taste like? So you just know they are ripe by size? Where do you get them from?

you can buy a heirloom seed for green tomatoes but i always use un ripe red ones tho
