Once Colonel and Duchess are old enough to start breeding, after the eggs hatch will I have to separate Duchess and her ducklings from Colonel? or will she and them be fine around Colonel?

At what age will I be able to separate the ducklings from her?
I plan on selling the ducklings but want to wait until I'm able to separate them without upsetting her too much.

We've never owned ducks before so I need as much advice as I can get.

It depends on Colonel 's behavior: Some drakes are proud dads who protect mama and their offspring viciously, while other's will try to kill the ducklings. You just need to observe him. Those duckling-killers often show their nature very early, being aggressive to the duck while she sits on the nest.

Are there usually early signs of this? Like before she starts sitting on the nest?

I don't know! My drake Donald was a bit upset when two of my Runner ducks started to sit on their nests (with wooden eggs) but he wasn't aggressive to the ducks, he turned on me. I think you need to watch carefully - or go the safe way and separate. But i remember you have a space issue, right?
Btw: Domestic ducks are likely to become broody at all, except for the Hook Bill, Mallard and Silver Appleyard. So if you want babies from your ducks it may be better to collect the eggs and set them in an incubator.
