My Chickens are not free ranging. I was told that I needed to give them grass clippings because they need them?!?!?! Is that true?

If they have no source for fresh geenery then grass clippings could be one.
Just be sure the clippings are fresh and haven't sat around & started to mold.

When I first got my pullets - 9wks old - and had no fenced yard, I pulled clover for them to eat so they could have something green.
Now in Winter I supplement them with the occasional bag of spinach or some other greens.

Chickens are omnivores and can benefit from a diet that has lots of variety.
See the BYC Treat Chart for some ideas.

They should have some type of greenery in their diet. If you do use grass clippings, make sure to cut it up into small pieces so that they can properly digest it. When chickens eat grass from the ground, they peck it off in small pieces. You can also give them lettuce, kale, spinach etc. as a form of greenery.

Thanks for the information.. Never thought about cutting it up..
Where do you find the BYC Treat Chart at????????

sometimes when i feed my chickens i throw grass in their pen to get them out so i can feed them. I dont put grass in their feeder but they do like it for a treat.
