My friend was hatching some eggs for me and they failed. I really need more hens, and the feed stores no longer have chicks, soooo I guess I am ordering! Which hatchery do you recommend? We are in Texas, don't know if that makes a difference. Also, how do you know when they are coming from the PO??
Thanks I really have never done this.

Hi there...newbie here but I did quite a bit of research online & on here about my chicks. I'm lucky enough to live right around the corner from Mt. Healthy hatchery and they seem to have a decent reputation nationally. McMurray is also another big hatchery but I just read a post about poor quality chicks from them. Mypetchicken.com is another place to try. Hope it works out!

Ideal is very well liked and they are in Texas. Also you may want to check the Auction listings on here for chicks from breeder's on BYC. It's a GREAT source for quality birds!

I bought mine through McMurray and they were excellent. The chicks are doing great and I only lost 1 the first day. I ordered 30 and recieved 34 and they are all supposed to be pullets. They had the best customer service and even marked chicks so I could give them to the right people. Highly recommend them and would buy from them again in a heart beat.

I got mine from Cackle and so far so good! They were very nice on the phone and my chicks were shipped on Monday and I got them early Wednesday morning. They are in Missouri and I'm in Oregon so I thought they did good. I haven't worked directly with Ideal however my feed store got all their chicks from them soooooo consequently I had to buy some lol! From Ideal I have 2 polish, 2 welsummers, 2 sex link, 2 EE, 2 buff orps, 3 silkies and 2 bantam cochins. My little polish are the most friendly. I don't know how they will end up laying but so far they are doing good! One of the reasons I ordered from Cackle was because their limit was 25 instead of 25. I ordered 15 standard heavy breeds and they sent me an extra light brahma. Getting chicks in the mail is so exciting!!!

might look into going to an auction...and before you say there aren't any near you...check around you might be surprised. Iknow there are many in the Austin area. Also...there are lots of BYCers from Texas so you might find some of them that have birds...Heck. lots of us okies live onthe border or make regular trips into Texas.

Check around...lots of options
