Question about hatching call ducks

I have 5 chocolate call duck eggs in my incubator that are due to hatch today. One has broken into the air cell. The woman that sold me the eggs told me that you have to poke a hole in the eggs in the top of the air cell because they're beaks aren't strong enough to break through the shell.

Does anyone know about this? Should I do that or just leave him alone??

It depends on how long the internal pip has been - I usually wait a few hours, and if no action in 8 hours or so, I will pip the shell for them - but make it a small pip - just enough for air, then let it be for another 12 hours to see if it makes any progress on it's own.

As long as I have external pip, I wait a good 36 hours before cracking the shell further - ducks usually take longer to come out than chicks - and I've had a couple "helped too soon" that turned out badly. (yolk sack not absorbed).

Meri, thank you so much! I absolutely love this forum and all on it!

I'm going to do just what you said. Thank you again. I checked on him at 11am and he was internally pipped. I'll wait a little while long and then make a small hole.
