I go to Dollar General and get a large plastic storage container.
I then get a cheap aluminum light with a ceramic socket and the safty bars across the opening (about 6 bucks at
walmart)
I get small PINE shavings (NOT CEDAR!!!) from my local feed store.
Put the shavins in the storage bin, put paper towells across the shavings for the first few days, hang the light over the "brooder/container" and get a thermometer and place it at the BOTTOM of the brooder.
Adjust the light so the temperature is around 95 degrees F and better to be cooler than warmer.
MAKE SURE the chicks have a way to avoid the heat source if they feel it too hot so put the light at only one end of the brooder.
Get the chick waterers and put marbles in the dish part.
chicks have an uncanny abilitiy to drown themselves ?!
Put the medicated chick starter on top of the paper towells for the first few days.
The chicks will find the water and the food and you can replace the paper towells every day if you feel it necessary.
This too allows you to look at thier poop for normal appearance.
Change thier water EVERY DAY they get it filthy usually.
This is the worst part for me, the waterer. Some on here have found some pretty ingenious methods to water their little ones.
This should get you going. GOOD LUCK and CONGRATS !!!
