Question about heatlamps for duckling

im not an expert at this stuff. but i raised duckies and first time to raise chicks.

i pulled the heat lamp off of them when i knew they were ready... when the primary feathers came in. and i had raised the heat lamp a couple inches every week to get them use to it.

also, they didnt hang out at the heat lamp as much.

this usually happened during the fith week.
i live in tx where it gets hot, and during the day when it was really hot i turned it off. kept it on during the night though..

until about the fifth week
i hope this helps

Thank you for the info. He still has fur more then fethers. Closest thing to feathers is on his tail. By the 5th week he should get his primary feathers, correct? or will it be a bit sooner?

mine came in by the fifth week.

I've still got mine on the blue swedish. They're also 4 weeks old and still few feathers, just on their tails. They seem to like the warmth still.

My little guy is changing colors. He went from having a green beak to a blue and his feathers are starting to change from green to blue.

Graceful and I both believe he might be a cayuga/runner mix. He is a big baby and loves to be held

aww i love duckies! i bet hes pretty!

just keep an eye on him. like i said, tx is pretty warm anywase so it was usally around five weeks when they stayed away from the heating lamp and then i pulled it altogether. (still put a reg lamp on them at night though)
