I just put together an incubator with stuff I had laying around the house. Old cooler, heat tape, and a very high quality proportional thermostat from my reptiles. It's been steady at 99.5 +/- 0.1 degree. My question is about how to keep the humidity right. Would a tray of water in the bottom be enough? I am in FL so the ambient humidity is pretty high right now so I am not sure if the water would even be necessary? Thanks for any info. I have never incubated anything aside from tons of snake and lizard eggs, but the poultry eggs seem to have little in common with my reptile eggs.

Humidity should be around 30-40% for 1-18 days. No less than 25% and no more than 50%. Once you reach 18 days, stop turning and raise humidity to 60-65%. You MUST have a humidity meter in order to tell what the humidity is.
To make humidity go up, you can add warm water in a bowl like we did with our homemade bator. We put a small plastic bowl in bottom of bator and add warm water to up the humidity. Also, it you can't get it up, put in a few warm moist paper towels or something. You must know what the humidity is without water first, since you're in FL, and then if it's not enough, add water into a bowl or something else.
Good luck!
