I'm thinking about getting emus, 3 or 4 and I definitely want at least 1 male and 1 female so that I can have eggs. Should I just get 1 male and 1 female or can I have multiple females with 1 male? I don't want them to fight or get lonely. Could I get 2 males and 2 females and keep them in the same pen?
Also I was wondering where I could get emu chicks. So far everywhere I have looked they have been too expensive. I live in Indiana and am hoping for somewhere in the state to buy baby emus.

Hi, fezmo. Well, the more emus, the better, in respect of getting them to form breeding-pairs -- I'd like to understand more about how breeding-pairs form in captivity.

Buy my Wild Guess: multiple females with one male would be a recipe for disaster, as it is the females who fight to control territory (for an incubation)

Currently I have three males with one full grown female and three nearly year old chicks (sex unkown). They all get along very well and in my experience emus will get along pretty well but you do have to remember the males incubate and two many females with own male could cause a problem just like briefvisit said. As of pricing emu chicks are expensive the cheapest I have ever found are 75$ for young chicks but I’ve also seen chicks go to 200$ a chick. They don’t come cheap. I ended up hatching eggs which I bought for 20$ a piece. And then I found a really good deal on some adults this past summer. I’ll keep my eye out for some chicks in Indiana.

Thanks! I just recently found out how long it takes emus to mature. Wow that's a long time! i tried to find somewhere near me to buy adult emus or some that are six months or something so i don't have to wait as long because emus are expensive, but i didn't have much luck there. If anyone knows anywhere in Indiana (or close by) that i could find adults or six month olds please let me know (although i think there isn't much).
