Question about kill cone

My DH bought a kill cone but it's way too small
We've processed a few birds but it just doesn't work the way we need it too
It's a medium and I think we should have gotten a XL, so we've been debating on cutting the end off to create a larger opening
Has anyone done this? Will it work better?
I'm thinking it will be too short and the bird will end up flopping out on the ground

I have 3 sizes and the CX didn't fit in any of mine right.
People cut up bleach bottles
I use a cut up kitty litter jug
I put electrical tape around the ankles

It was a gift and he's really bummed about it not working unfortunately
