question about "lock down" - Brooder baby pic

another crisis!!! Cat heard the peeping and jumped on the table, lid was pushed over... not all the way off but a few inches...... now what?!?!?!??

I haven't heard anymore peeping.... did it kill them?

ETA ok, the one with the bigger hole (still really small considering it has been 4 hours) is alive because I see the membrane moving, I guess with it breathing? (should the membrane be kind of papery looking at the hole?)
The other 2 pips are quiet, but there are 2 eggs kind of moving / rocking on their own, so maybe 2 more pips? I hope I didn't doom these poor chicks

I doubt that would kill them all... give it a little time. If possible, add a little bit of warm water through the holes in the lid if your bator has them to get the humidity back up. That is the main reason you keep it closed up - to keep humidity in. how long was it open??

couldn't have been more than 20-30 seconds, I was coming in from feedig the dogs and heard the noise. I can see water in the trays and that the towels are still wet, should I still add the warm water?

If it is really warm, it will give off a little more steam and increase the humidity. If you have a hygrometer, check that first. If it is ok, you are all set... if not, a little steam can't hurt.

Did the eggs get moved around at all?

no hygrometer, so I added some warm water.
The eggs had to have been jostled - one of the thermometers was on the wire instead of the top of the eggs

There was no steam, though...... ?

I am so shocked to have any sign of life at all after the drama of this last couple of weeks. If these chicks make it they will be very tough birds

Hope your pips are peeping along! I've had several drama-drama hatches- power outages, no hydrometer, temp low, temp high, plugs in, plugs out, AH! Usually there's a few healthy chicks that make it though! I finally broke down and bought a fan for the incubator and a hydrometer/thermometer on Amazon for 19.95 that is meant to go in a reptile cage, but works wonderfully! My hatch rate increased DRAMATICALLY not to mention my peace of mind! It's so nice to be able to see what the humidity is and adjust accordingly. I definitely recommend getting one for your next batch! I didn't realize how important the humidity is or I would've gotten one from the start! Every incubator is different, but the humidity does raise pretty quickly once they start hatching, the wet little bird adds more moisture. For me, lock down is TORTURE!!!!

ok it has been 4 1/2 hours

In the sticky it says "A good indicator of when to help (besides the peeping and moving lessening) is if you see that the pipped area has a very very white membrane showing through at the edges. Most intervention is required because of humidity issues.
"

This is what I have... pretty much the same as earlier and white membrane..... do I do anything? th other 2 pips haven't done anything else either

I sure hope somebody is up late
