Question about maintaining my flock...

I have not yet had to trim my chickens nails, but I sure do wish they weren't as sharp. I know that when I trim my dog's nails though, that they are even sharper for a few days until they walk around on hard surfaces and naturally file them down. So I would imagine the same would happen to your chickens nails. Now I also have a PediPaws (that dremel like tool, also called a Peticure, that spins and files down the nails) that I sometimes use on my dogs nails. It's actually pretty quiet and doesn't grind down the nail too fast or anything. Has anyone used one on their chickens? I think I'll try it and see what happens. It'll probably require two sets of hands though. If/when I do, I'll let you know how it went. In the mean time, if anyone HAS used a Pedipaws please chime in here. Thanks.

does your dog like the Pedipaws? I tried it on my cats and they hated it! I'm not sure if it has to do with the amount of heat it produces but it feels really hot after we trim them up.

I've got two pugs. I usually trim their nails the old fashioned way (with dog nail clippers) and then use the Pedipaws as a file basically to smooth the sharp edges. I do the same thing with my cats nails. The don't particularly "like" it, but I manage. It's no harder than clipping them. My ca, now she just sits there and hands me her paw. She's amazing. LOL

Wow, i'm jealous. My cat DOES not just sit there. She cries like I'm trying to hurt her or something. I like it better than the clippers because now I don't have to worry about cutting too short and making it bleed.
