Question about "miracle"

For anyone who was around this past summer and heard my story of the miracle pea's, here is an update and a question. They are HUGE! It still amazes me how big they are now and how gorgeous, and also that they really shouldn't be here at all! Anyway, the original miracle pea turned out to be a boy

My question is that his crown feathers fell out a couple months ago and still haven't grown back. I'm not sure if they fell out or were pulled, but either way they are gone. Do they ever grow back?

These guys are wonderful. I never thought pea's would get that close to their human companions but these are like a puppy. They beg (in their own way lol) when I am near them to come in the pen with them. When I do go in with them, they are all over me. They play, peck, climb on me.....basically have a ball. Not one bit of fear. They are the same way with my husband and grandsons. I am so happy that they are as friendly as they are. It makes it so much easier that we can just walk up and pick them up without any problems. I'll try to get some pictures posted soon.

yes the crest feathers do get pecked off , yes will grow back, if the others will let them........

Aww that sounds wonderful. How did you socialize them? I really want really tame peafowl if my peahens can give me eggs this summer then I would love to try and raise tame peachicks.

I really loved that story by the way, it was very amazing!

You definately should post some pics! I remember Miracles story very well... how did the other eggs do? Didn't you bring home some Guinea eggs, too? I am so happy that little Miracle spoke up when you tried to toss the eggs! Is he an IB?

We have 5 very large, very active and very vocal guineas running things in the yard lol. Looks or I should say sounds like 1 male and 4 females. As for socializing the peas, after they hatched they spent about a month or so in the house in a big pen we had put together for them so they were around us all the time. I handled them a lot! Not because I was trying to socialize them, but because they were so darn cute and I was still so amazed by the whole thing. Right now my hubby and I are expanding the hens pen. As soon as that is done we are building a larger flight pen for the peas. Right now they are in a 20x20x7 foot pen with perches and a little house. The pen we are expanding will add another 20 x 30 and more like 10 to 12 feet tall. I am planning on landscaping it all with trees and rocks and grass. I would love to let them free range but we have so many predators near us. We are in the middle of some very dense forest and it would kill me if something got to them. I was really surprised at how well the peas get along with everyone else (critters). We have a mini stallion running around, 2 large akbash dogs, 2 little dogs, the guineas, ducks etc. I had heard that they could be kind of high strung and I worried that all that outside stimulation would bother them....well boy was I wrong~ They are little instigators! They will strut around and actually kick their feed outside their pen to attract the horse (he loves their food). Then while poor snickers is nibbling along the enclosure they follow him and peck at him through the fence. Same with the dogs. We have a female tweenie weenie dog and for some reason whenever she is around, Miracle starts his strutting....tail up, fanned out (his growing tail that is) and quivers them like crazy at that dog. No idea why. Only dog he does it with too. He is definitely not afraid of the dog, just showing off I guess. Soon as I find the cord that I attack my camera to the computer with I'll post some pictures. Grandsons were here all summer so most stuff has been rearranged on me.

Our peafowl display for our dog too. They also like to display for squirrles. I don't think it has to do with fear like you said, but I think it is more of a way to maybe scare the dog or let it know that this is the peafowl's teritory and to go away. I know my peahen displays to the squirrles when they are eating near her. She scares them off with her displays. I think they are trying to look big to scare them away. Not all the peafowl will display at our dog, some of them act really curious and walk up to our dog, and our little peahen has jumped on the dog before which is why our dog is now deathly afraid of the peafowl and hides behind my mom when she is near the pen.
