Nothing is wrong with my Muscovy drake, as far as I'm concerned, but there's been a matter I've been thinking about asking on here, just to hear you guys' opinions. :)

My drake, Firefly, hasn't always gotten 'soaked' after taking bath or after it rains. As far as I'm remembering correctly, he always dried off. As of late, these past few months, he's gotten soggy after rains, or from going through grass with morning dew, or possibly baths. (I don't know him to go down into the creek, but I think he'll sometimes do it when I'm not out there from evidence of wetness)

I jokingly call him a 'drowned rat' because his feathers just get soaked, and he takes a while to dry off. He does dry off--I like to read threads on here to learn more stuff about ducks and I saw someone mention wet feather in one of them. Curious, I looked it up, but I don't think my drake has it.

When I look at my other ducks after a recent rain, or when they've been going through dewy grass or after bathing, they are never soaked like Firefly.

Is he just not as waterproof as others? This is what I've always assumed, since he's not sick or anything. He acts and eats and drinks like normal.

If you guys want any pictures, I may be able to get some of him wet since it just rained today.

Firefly has turned a year old about a month or so ago. In fact, I'm pretty sure he's molting right now. I've been seeing lots of piles of white feathers around, (he's white and black--mostly white) and I've seen several come off him.

I haven't checked his preen gland yet; I'll have to do it tomorrow since it's gotten too late.

Ah alright, glad to know. I did end up checking his preening gland this morning, just to be sure. I wanted to share a picture to ask if it looks normal?
