My Polish Cockerel "Jay Z" has been mating with my two Polish Pullets. Does this mean that they are close to laying? Does a Cockerel or Roo KNOW when a Pullet is ready to mate? Or do they just force themselves on whomever whenever where ever? (yucky thought) I'm hoping that we can tell when some of the pullets are close to laying by the roo's doing the deed.

Stupid roosters [IMG] My cockerels do mate whichever pullets they like, regardless of maturity. My little Roxi has never laid an egg... but every roo tries to mate her. But, that being said...... I have noticed that the most willing pullets are those that are either laying, have laid or are closest to laying.
