Question about New hens

Hey everyone My name is Adam im from vermont and i have a question i dont know the answer to i went to a Livestock Auction Recently and Bought 12 hens most of which are full grown and put them in the coop i had built several days before and they have been there since then i was wondering how long it might take for them to start laying i dont have a rooster im only doing this for eggs so im curious thanks to anyone who may have the answer or anything that may get them laying faster.

I would be patient-relocating hens, or big changes in enviroment can cause them to slow down a bit. Do you have any idea how old? From what I have learned, hens lose a bit of their production as they age. Pullets (under a year) have really good egg laying capabilities. After the first year they tend to slow.

I read in the Living With Chickens book, that you can tell how many eggs by the color loss in their feet, then face, then comb. Not sure how to tell using the color loss method myself.

Also, they may be getting ready to molt. In the molt process they usually quit laying altogether till they get done molting.

Thank you for Replying i would say at least 9 of them are between 20-25 weeks 3 of them i would say are much more mature hens there combs are bright red and there feet are kinda of cracked more so then that of the other 9 i mean i have a coup that is 6 feet wide at the front and over 7 feet from front to back how many hens do you think would be good for a coup that size?

right now your new hens have had 3 stresses on them.1 being caught an hauled to the sale.2 being moved to the sale pens.3 you buying an hauling them home.are their combs red.it make take 2wks to a month for them to start laying.have to get used to their new henhouse.
