I live in South Dakota, so you never know what the weather will do from day to day. Last weekend we took all the winter coverings off and last night it rained and all my Peafowl are wet. Then today it decides to snow. Their pens are nothing but mud and snow. I feel sorry for them. So my question is will they get sick from being wet and have snow blowing at them and colder temps, around 36 degrees right now?

I know that the weather's a lot more serious in SD than it is out here, but our peas insist on sleeping on the roof of their pen (no shelter at all) in all weather. If we get the heads-up on a big storm in time, I can sometimes shoo them all indoors, where they have tarps over the roof and three walls, and they're happy with that. Left to their own devices, the silly things will sleep out in wet weather even when it's close to freezing, and in heavy rain. Their feathers seem pretty good at shedding water, but wind is another matter. High wind will drive them inside.

One of these days I am going to build them a tall shelter, and fasten the netting to the roof so they can't get on top of it!

We have 3 sided sheds open towards the South they are 10x10.

These are facing West and are 4 sided with a 5' wide door.

This isn't a very good picture but you can see some of the sheds and runs we have 26 breeder pens but not all in use now, we only have 4 pens set up now.
