Question about Polish

I have several different colors of polish. I am wondering if I need to seperate them by color to avoid interbreeding of the colors. If I penned White crested blue and a gold laced polish would the offspring be one or the other or would it be a mixture/variation of both?

You'd get mixes. If you want pure color, you have to breed pure color..

Thats what I thought it was going to be. I was just HOPING they would be either one or the other. Looks like we are going to be building alot of seperate pens.

I have an almost 13 week old chick that came out of the egg of a Bearded Buff Laced that had a White Crested Blue roo over her.
The pullet is white with black splotches

That is crazy, Mahonri! Would've thought you'd get that color? Cool chicken.

I think, in * theory *, you would get solid blues and blacks from crossing your blue with the gold laced--though they'd likely have some red/gold leaking through, and you wouldn't want to breed the offspring with the intent of breeding pure blues/blacks (I imagine they'd throw some "surprises."

). Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Regardless, like everyone has already said, you'll need to separate your varieties to keep them pure.

There are some varieties you can run together, though, depending on how you have your breeding groups set up. What different colors do you have? Right now, to save on pen space, I have wc black, blue, and chocolate cuckoo hens with a wc black rooster. Sounds like a muddy mess, but it's not--all varieties will be pure from this pen, because all of the hens are of colors that can be bred to black. So from this pen, I can get wc black, wc blue, wc chocolate, wc cuckoo, and wc chocolate cuckoo offspring.

So, you may find that you have color varieties that can be bred together and kept pure, if pen space is an issue.

In your case, however, you have a laced bird and that is just going to be a mix when put in with a solid colored bird.
