Question about raising peachicks: Please respond?

thing about spalding even in the same clutch, chicks will look different. Some will look more like the greens others will look like the blues. Like wise their manner could take after either side.

Some can be very tame, even fallin asleep in your lap. Like any bird older they are the more time it will take to tame them. NOT to many people want a fullgrown peacock setting on their shoulder.

Yes if you want to free range them wait untill spring. remember its always a risk. Full grown peafowl have alot less predators, than one 3 months old.

I attempted to let my silkies hatch some peachicks (Indian blue) a few months ago. It was a horrible hatch, I think because of the extreme heat we were having. Anyway out of 9 eggs I only got 1 chick and it was helped out the egg otherwise he/she wouldn't have made it. The poor thing didn't eat very much and I thought it was going to waste away. I ended up buying a guinea chick at the local farmers market so it would have a friend. The guinea is completely nuts but the peachick is a sweet little thing. They are an odd little couple, but they seem to get along well.

I agree, have seen places with 2-3 peacocks, and nothing else. Not even chickens. One place had one peacock and 3 guineas- all males(that was smack dab in middle of the city too). Also have seen places with various poultry and just one peacock. They appeared 'fine'. I also will agree though, that the chances of them staying put if there are peafowl within their hearing distance is 'iffy'. Some will.. some will visit the other flock then come back.. some will go visit and never come back.

Kat may have meant it's cruel to sell only one peachick with no buddy. I do agree for peachicks that have been raised with other peachicks(or chicks) for a couple weeks or more, not so nice to sell only one.. it WILL have a bad case of separation anxiety and can get stressed too much. It is okay to take one peachick with a chick buddy if they were in same brooder or an lone day old, but with a day old you will almost have to entertain it 24/7. A tame chick will be VERY helpful in making the peachick tame too.

Like to add , bad idea to raise a single peachick by itself, it will imprint to people.

All the years i have raised peafowl, Only had one that will attack me, yep he was single raised.Biggest pet you ever seen, untill breeding season. First time he got me gather eggs from his hens, he hit me upside the head.(Yep blood dripping from me) Tell you what those toe nails and spurs DON'T FEEL GOOD.
He is still super tame eats out of my hand ,set on my lap. Breeding season I carry a stick or the net, only way he will not attack. Guess he see me as another peacock.
