Okay so I'm gonna give you a scenario to explain my question. So a hen gets bred with one rooster so now she is fertile for about a week more or less right? So then if she was seperated and put in with a different rooster of a different breed and they mate. Which breed would be born after you hatched the eggs that were laid after the second rooster bred the hen??? Would it be the first the second or both? Would it be the first until the week was up then the second? It's a hard consept for me to grasp?? Please help. Right know what I've been doing is waiting a week befor putting the hens in with a new rooster to be sure of what I was gettin
thx

I had a hen in with one roo. Put her with another 2 weeks later and 2 weeks after that I put her eggs in the bator. 3 weeks after that I got chicks who were fathered by both roos.

So both would be the daddy? I would also like to know this! Because when one of my roos mates a hen then right after he gets off then another roo jumps on her and sometime even another! Which will be the daddy?

It is kind of like dogs and cats, they can have multiple father's to their young from the same litter. A rooster's seed can remain active for 2 or more weeks, so if she is put in with Roo 1 then Roo 2 she can have eggs fertilized by different sperm therefore she could hatch out chicks that have diff fathers although they were from eggs laid within the same few days.

Complicated,eh? LOL!

Interesting! I never even thaught about that! How neat!

OH i get it. It is really complicated! So how do I manage my stuff do I just have to isolate them for two weeks before I know I am going to get pure breds?

yup....you gotta remove and wait at least two if not three weeks just to be sure. You can't really mix and match with chickens likeyou can with some other animals....
