Question about sexing

It can be dangerous to vent sex - I can 100% see a breeder not doing it. Why put their babies in potential danger? I think it shows a trustworthy breeder who knows their limitations. If a breeder is trained in safe vent sexing then they will say that, but that is rare.

I have a PhD focused on poultry production and I can't vent sex. Neither can my PhD advisor (he joked he was 50% accurate).

Vent sexing is a special skill that few people have mastered. The hatcheries do employ people to vent sex - those people are highly trained and still not 100% accurate. Some crosses can be feather-sexed or color-sexed at hatch, but these aren't typically what breeders are producing.
