We didn't have a separate area for the hens and our baby chicks were getting killed before or as they hatched. So, we rescued all the eggs from under the five broody hens and have been hatching them ourselves. We started last Thursday.
I candled all the eggs and got rid of the ones with bacteria rings. I kept the eggs that were solid black or half black (around 22 I think).
So far, over the past week, we've hatched around six baby chicks including one that hatched today. They've been coming about one a day. We've had to throw away about four or five eggs that were weeping or smelled rotten.
It's now been a week and I have 10 eggs left. I water tested them and my results were that the large end of the egg floating up but there was no movement in the egg.
I've searched the site and can't find a good response to match my results.
Should I sit tight and wait a bit longer for these eggs?
