Hi!

I have a question about whether I should keep water inside the coop at night.

My chickens are about 9 weeks old now. When it gets dark, they go in the coop and will not come out until daylight in the morning.

I’ve noticed that they won’t come out of the coop if it’s dark outside... but their water is outside in the run!

Do I need to keep a waterer inside the coop for overnights?

Last time I put a waterer dish (the kind with mason jar on top), they knocked it over and made a mess of it.

I just don’t know if it’s a good idea to keep water in the coop.. because they spill it. Do they need water at night?

Haha!! I see. So I don’t need to keep water in the coop..? :D

Chickens do not need food or water when there is an absence of light.

If you are supplementing natural light in your coop as many do, then yes, they will need food and water when awake.
