Believe me I have some clue about gene and genetics!
( I have a M.Sc ( Master degree) in zoology, my theses was on the genetics of broad lipped rhinoceros( white) and I am teachings genetics and Biology in high school for the last 25 years)
The color of the egg shell as any other genetic trait ( except the genes that comes from the Mitochondria) is influenced by both parents. The male does not influence the genetic of its mate bot the genetic of it offspring!, lateral gene transmission occurs only in Bacteria! All other have a vertical gene transmission ( as far as we know!) When you have a chicken that lays brown shelled eggs, the color is not influenced from the rooster that she mate with, but from the rooster that here mother mated with! And that what I have posted.
