Ok so we have decided on sand for the coop and I already have a place in mind. They offer two different types of washed sand. The first is a very fine sand that packs well and the other is a larger grain with small pebble more like what you would find at the beach. The guy I spoke to said the second one is what they use in drain fields. I was thinking of going with the second because it would offer better drainage in the coop so if there is an extremely wet occurrence (hurricane season is looming in the not so far future) it would hopefully keep the water moving on its way and would dry out quickly. Does this sound like the best option? Any opinions are greatly appreciated!!

I chose washed all-purpose sand, which has a variety of pebble sizes in a sand base. My girls are doing great with it.
