Question about withholding feed

i restrict feed on my cornish x's. they get 3 lbs of feed for 12 hours, then no feed overnight. they still mob the food everytime i put it in. they gorge themselves till their crops are as big as my fist. they generally quiet down and stob trying to fly out of their pen when it gets dark. that's why i restrict feed overnight. i also don't allow free access to feed, i've heard too many horror stories of heart attacks. my biggest bird last time i processed was 8 pounds at 8 weeks. i would reccomend restricting feed for any cornish x's.

also, they've never hurt each other when they don't get food, the only stupid thing they do is get stuck under the waterer after i fill it and put it back in as they're mobbing for the water.

i've never seen crazier chickens than my meat birds, i'm always afraid i'll lose my hand sticking it in their pen

It's definitely too cold for no lights, but the red heat lamp is all they get.

Still been high 40's at nigth here- in the barn it is over 60, so they are doing ok. I dont know that a red light would make a big difference in triggering their appetite though...maybe someoen else knows more on that???

You can just get a bigger feeder- like a five gallon homemade one even- then you dont have to worry about them running out at night-I have 90 rangers, and that usually lasts at least two nights.

Do they eat from it at all during the day?

That one is just for night, I fill another feeder for daytime that goes outside, they have difficulty deciding between the feeder or chasing bugs though...
