I have a chick that just hatched under my broody hen today, it started hatching yesterday, and didnt finish till tonight. It is peeping and moving around normally, but there is a huge piece of shell stuck to its back! It looks like a turtle. Should I just leave it alone?? do you think it will just fall off?? I tried to gently pull it of earlier, but it is like glued on.

If you decide to remove it, try using warm water to soften the membrane -that is what's sticking to the down- it should slide right off once it gets wet. Make sure the chick is nice and dry and warm then put it back with mom. [IMG]
