Question for BS experts (and I mean that in the nicest possible way)...

Blackshoulder peachicks male and female develop identical black color until they are 8-10 weeks. Not possible to sex them at 10 weeks. After that the male chicks start developing green color on the neck which intensify with age.. The female chick starts loosing dark color- gradually turning white with brown spots on her upper body. The chick in this picture can be male or female Dark color at this point is not indicative of any gender. I have hatched several BS chicks in the past 5 years. I know.

Here's a BS Female at 5 weeks - but i forget, she's part purple too, so thats gotta make a difference... But i'd posted picts of her on here to figure out what she was and no one ever said she looked different than a BS. not till she got purple on the back of her neck. Of course now I have a BS female and she isn't brown at all where this girl is a million shades of brown.

and here she is at 6.5 weeks, Never had alot of black, but i believe the person that said the boys n girls look alike for a while, I think i remember people telling me the same that i had to wait to see if she got more black or lost it, she clearly lost it :) But just in case yours magically gets mixed with purple or something :)

What is her parents..male line and female line ? If her daddy was purple she is purple if her mamma was purple and her daddy had no purple she does not have any purple gene in her. George

i have no idea of her parents, i got four eggs from a guy that bought the eggs n hatched them. he had no idea. but i'm told she's bs purple. lets see if i can find a pict of her with cleo our bs female. I don't have a good one so here's Rose - bs purple at 5.75 months when the purple showed up.

and here's the bs pair together at 6 months. Cleo is mostly white maybe creamy in spots but not brown like Rose. - having problems wish picts, please see next reply :(
