Hey, I'm enter annually in my county fair for the Poultry exhibition, always for an egg-laying class (brown and white) and for Showmanship. I'm just wondering if anyone who has participated in this has any suggestions about Showmanship. I know the judge asks questions about the birds, and then you're supposed to tell him about the certain breed, and I wan to know what the judge likes to hear. I usually say things about genetics, class, varieties, Standard of Perfection, and other facts about the breed. Any other thoughts?

I've had judges ask me about the protein percentage of their feed, what color the bird is, what color eggs does it lay, and I've also had to switch birds and answer questions about other people's fowl. Know the basics about common breeds.

All right, thanks!

The judge at our fair is mostly concerned with your handling of the bird, how much you worked with it, and how calm the bird. Appearance is also very important (white shirt/coat/apron, black pants, dress shoes)
