question for geese owners

That's a bummer, I was really hoping it was true.

I'm trying Winter Rye grass this year in my garden. I didn't till in under just planted my stuff in it and I keep it mowed. Now that my plants are getting big the rye is dying out. I also mowed the grass most of the winter and feed it to my chickens. I like mowing much better than weeding.

What about eating water lillies? I have a pond over-run by them.. would geese clean it up? So far the research I've done says the animal to get is a moose because they can eat 100lbs of them in a day, but that aint happening.

I've also heard to put grass carp in the pond.

Well, on the other hand, geese are lovely animals to have around. Most will free-range, and in my experience, these greens make them much easier to clean up after. Geese are friendly, attractive, and they may just take a liking to your weeds. Some do, some don't. I've heard chinese geese are the ones to go to for weeding.

I've noticed the eat things that were introduced as young goslings. We have a lot of fire weed here and they love that. They even reached out of the breeding pens to and kept it from growing along the fence. Now if they could get in the garden ,look out.

My 2 month old Realy love the weeds in the yard, of course they eat a lot of grass too but a lot fo times i will see them skip large patches of nice grass for those special weeds they like so much.

You have to train them to weed. Feed them the weeds from your garden as goslings. Also, get a lighter goose like a Chinese Goose because they weigh less and will not trample over the good plants. For example you would rather have a 10 pound bird roaming your garden than a 30 pound bird... right? Anyway, my geese love the weeds but I haven't put any in the garden to try them as weeders. They live in our orchard and control pests and keep it mowed down.
