Hi, I was wondering if a four foot high fence would be tall enogh for standard size chickens?

A bigger concern than keeping them in, is keeping predators out. So if this is an issue you might want a higher fence.

How hard is it to clip wings, and if I don't how high should the fence be? Predators aren't going to be a very big problem.

When you cut the primary feathers do not cut too short, they have blood vessels at the lower end. Do one wing only. You will have to do it again following the moult.

Observe them for a while first. A 4ft fence may well contain most birds quite happily, although they could get out of there if they were scared and took flight.

Most chickens can't fly very far, but they can get off the ground and achieve a decent height for a short distance.
