How we defining 'modern'?
"Are they dead?"

:)

I dunno, Modernism is a classical composition movement that is typically attributed to starting circa 1890. Contemporary classical is usually defined as a date beginning in 1945 with the death of Anton Webern.

So It's really up to the individual responding I guess.

How we defining 'modern'?
According to what I remember from music history class, the five main periods are Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern, and Postmodern.

Baroque - 1600-1750
Classical - 1750 to around 1820
Romantic - 1820 to around 1920
Modern - 1920 to around 1980
Postmodern - 1980 - now

My favorite non modern composers: Bach, Beethoven, Haydn…there’s way too many to name :).
