Question of the Day - Saturday, August 17th, 2024

Um . . . gosh, hard one. I hated having to interact with other children, so my favorite games were solitary things I made up. One example: I'd set up my stuffed animals in the backyard and dress up like an Indian, and then I'd "hunt" my stuffed animals with a toy bow and arrow I had. Sometimes I would set up the stuffed animals with little baggies of Froot Loops placed on them so I could "eat" my kill afterwards. But I mostly pretended to be different animals or bugs.

Very creative!

Outside games were things like kickball, football, baseball, and we had a huge vacant lot nearby where we set up a BMX track and would ride and race almost every day. Then we'd ride up to the pool and swim. Then dinner and back out to hang in someone's driveway until the street lights came on.

Inside, we'd play checkers, chess, chinese checkers, Uno, Monopoly, Scrabble, Trivial pursuit, or we'd build stuff with legos, erector sets, or Capsella (anyone remember that?).

As we got older, the indoor games turned to more strategy-based stuff (like Catan, Risk, Supremacy, etc...) and ttrpg's (Dungeons and Dragons, Star Wars PRG, various world of darkness titles, etc...)

I still game whenever I can today. I will run ttrpg's for the kids and their friends (mostly pathfinder or shadowrun), and I still play Magic with my nerd friends and my boys.

Top secret nerf wars
Pretending to be on super secret spy missions on our bikes.
Pretending like our bikes/3-wheelers are semis 😂 .
Cooking outside
And many, many others!
We also liked Balderdash, Monopaly, PayDay, Uno and a multitude of other games.

Oh, ok. This one made me laugh until I had tears for real 😂

Not in a bad way. I thought it was pretty cool
