Our only source of heat in winter is a cast iron woodstove.
However, I have long ago dropped the romanticism of matches and invested in a $15 propane torch.

I could in NM, first time, every time. In MO ... fuhgettaboutit! Usually the wood is wet, the kindling is green, humidity is high and even with lamp lighting fluid saturating everything including the newspaper it's not a sure thng.
Frustra! As we used to say in Latin class. Frustra! Frustra!

Yes, but everyone who knows how to build fires using the older methods is smart enough to always keep a lighter on them.
