We've had a couple I had a healthy/wary respect for, but not a fear of. And it's because they were large animals (horses) that you needed to be careful with because of their size. They wouldn't deliberately hurt us, but they could cause a lot of damage on accident if you weren't careful.

Exactly! I've had a couple of really "hot" horses that might buck, rear, spook, or try to run, so I've had some scary moments in the saddle, and there was one (not mine) that I refused to ride.
 
No, but I have had animals that others were scared of. Rhon, my German Shepherd dog, never bit anyone, but he sure intimidated most who met him. His devotion to me and my family was unlimited. I'll never own another Shepherd. Losing him still hurts after 50 years.
