Question of the Day - Saturday, October 5th, 2024

Hanging out with my brother and the guys in the neighborhood, riding bikes and being free to roam the neighborhood all day doin' nothin' - before they discovered I was a gurrrrl. ... throwing balls with the crippled kid next door, depending what season it was, a football, baseball, tennis ball. If I didn't land it in his lap I had to run down the street to go fetch it; if I missed catching it I had to run the other way to retrieve it. I could outrun every kid in the neighborhood from all that running and I could beat them all at Indian wrestling, too. I miss being fit and strong and fast.

I read this as throwing balls AT the crippled kid next door. I was shocked, shocked I say

Caving, going swimming at different swimming holes, jumping off of falls and cliffs is probably what I miss the most. But, a lot of other things as well like playing sports, riding motorcycles, playing in the woods, camping out, sneaking out and staying out all night, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, just too many things to even list. I still do some of those things, but it certainly isn't as much fun now.

My kids have lived a much tamer life than I did. Sometimes I think I would have a heart attack if my kids did even a fraction of the crazy things I did, but other times I feel sorry for them that they have lived a much tamer/safer life. My life was way, way too wild and I can't even say some of the things on here, or express just how wild and undisciplined it was. It was very crazy to put it mildly.
