Today's question is from @Gill:
A two part question:

On your Winter Solstice ("shortest day of the year"), where you live...

...how many hours of sun do you have on that day?

...and what time is sunrise on that day?
This year, the Winter Solstice is December 21st; next year, it is also December 21st.
This year, on December 21st, the sun will rise at 7:16 am and set at 4:53 pm.
So that's 9 hours 37 minutes of daylight.

My sister just said the other day she would never want to live somewhere where the sun set before 4pm on Winter Solstice... looks like my house is Dec. 21st 3:58pm, 8.5hrs total daylight. *phew*
