Question of the Day - Tuesday, August 12th, 2025

Okay, I have always read/heard that I'm supposed to cut or break off the woody ends of asparagus, but in all the time I've been buying asparagus I haven't found any part of it that seemed too tough or inedible? Do groceries and farmers markets sell them pre cut? Is this something I'll only encounter after I start harvesting my own next season? Or is my family eating "woody" ends without noticing? On the few occasions I've had asparagus at restaurants and other folks' homes I haven't noticed any difference between the texture of their asparagus vs. mine, so what on earth is this "end" that I'm supposed to be getting rid of?
